For once, the title on this map says it all: the focus of interest here is at the east end of the Military Reserve where it abuts the Town of York at Peter Street. It shows that several military buildings stand outside the Reserve on the shore above Lake Ontario where they encroached on the 30-acre strip along the water set aside in 1818 “for a Public Walk or Mall in front of the said town.” Toronto’s Union Station stands today on the last small piece of this Walks & Gardens reservation that has not been sold off or alienated otherwise.
